With the continued growing popularity of the short story, many good collections are released each year and yet sadly the majority go unnoticed by mainstream readers.
With just nine stories in all, Soto is quite adept at evoking social nuance. This is clearly evident in stories like Wrong Short Cuts, Black Box and The Weirdo and whilst they couldn’t be more different each one is eminently readable and a testament to the passion with which Soto writes.
In a beautifully written debut collection of short stories Lauren Wilson gives us a reflective meditation on ordinary people’s expectations and assumptions with stories that are emotionally rich whilst feeling fresh and disturbingly relevant in today’s world.
Leaving us with images that linger in our thoughts Ha’s All the Rivers Flow into the Sea & Other Stories is simply superb and an unreservedly recommended five stars read!
