The BookViral Review:

Whilst many commentators feel increasingly uneasy writing about religion, politics and racism, those who do tend to fall between those who want to inflame and those who want to inform. With The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary, Oscar Phillips straddles both camps with a challenging and deeply informed read for anyone seriously interested in these subjects as he methodically explores their complexities with cuttingly insightful observation.

Extensively referenced and compelling in its broad strokes whether you agree with him or not he begs the questions we should all be asking. He doesn’t ask us to agree with his analysis and conclusions, his aim is to educate and stimulate discussion and whilst some of his topics are near the knuckle it doesn’t detract from the kernels of truth that permeates his prose.

In an age where a politician’s every word —and every twitter post—is endlessly scrutinized Phillips writes with descriptive fluency and an eye for detail and The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary proves cuttingly allegorical. Yes, at times it is radical and even seditious but what makes his book so much more than ranting is his ability to tease out connections in an age of universal deceit where telling the truth is often perceived as a revolutionary act and dig back through history to expose the roots of political and national malaise.

Bringing a lifetime’s worth of personal insights together The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary demands reflection yet it isn’t a taxing read as Phillips most importantly presents a broadly accessible perspective.

Regardless of which end of the political spectrum you find yourself on, there’s no denying we live in increasingly volatile times where problematic political structures and shifting societal norms are creating havoc and if democracy and the concept of individualism are to endure we need more writers like Phillips who aren’t afraid to challenge our way of thinking.

Engrossing and intellectually stimulating  The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is a five-star must-read for eclectic thinkers and is unreservedly recommended!
